Spring Sport Coat Concept

Today, I chose a simple, blue/gray plaid box for an all-season sport coat option. This can be paired with black, gray, or navy trousers. The concept below features a beautiful navy pant.

Blue/Gray plaid with navy trousers

I kept the jacket detailing pretty simple on this one.  Navy threaded buttonholes with a charcoal button complements the navy  and gray threads in the jacket.  Nevertheless, the contrast of the button and buttonholes provides a little extra pop that one typically doesn’t get when looking at off-the-rack sport coats.

The shirt chosen to be worn open-collar, is a blue box on gray background…again complementing the colors in the jacket perfectly.

Blue/Gray box swith trim detailing

Our shirt has similarly subtle trim detailing including:

  • Charcoal buttons
  • Light gray buttonholes
  • Collar and cuff trim in a simple gray pattern meant to complement the gray in the jacket

Look f or these type of details when you shop for your spring/summer sport coats and shirts.

THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS THIS SPRING!

When it comes to Spring wardrobe ideas, detailing a sport coat or suit has never been more fun!

From altering the color of one’s lapel button hole thread…to…changing the thread of a jacket’s entire set of button holes… to altering the color of a jacket’s buttons…everything is in play!

Vitale Barberis Linen/wool custom suit...1 Button Peak Styling...with great details!

Here my customer has taken a great-performing suit blended by Vitale Barberis of wool/linen, chosen a one-button peak lapel for its button stance profile, and trimmed all button holes with white thread to match the suit’s stripe.  I’ve also chosen white buttons.

Next, we expanded this versatile suit’s use by pairing with a very cool light-weight ivory pant and an open-collar custom shirt.  I modeled this outfit in a 2-button notch lapel just to show what it could look like if one prefers notch vs. peak lapels.

Finally, my customer took his custom casual shirt and decided to have some fun with that as shown below:

Custom Casual shirt with subtle trim, buttons, button hole stitching

While this custom casual shirt look great with our new Linen/wool blazer, it also will look great worn outside a pair of your favorite jeans…cut shorter, for that perfect look, of course!

This Spring, look for contrasting lapel button hole thread.  If you are buying off-the-rack, don’t despair…a good tailor can change out the lapel button hole thread for $10-30/buttonhole.  Shirts are not easily alterable…but the good news is that everyone is getting into the casual shirt/trim business and there are lots of great alternatives.
